Default Secret Flies

Makes me laugh .

One to one i've never had a problem with sharing a ' working pattern ' yet so many seem to do so.
Fair play in an International or team event maybe, but outside of this .......... i've shared many top flies over the years, yet one comment which stands out the most is ' it'll knock the fish off em if everyone uses em '............... my reply.......... fish em better then .

Hi', All. Secret flies, miracle flies -- a myth.
Many years ago, the Alexandra was deemed to be so deadly that its use was banned on some fisheries. Why didn't its users clear out all the fish from those fisheries in which the deadly beast wasn't banned?
We've heard it all: Whisky Fly, Appetiser, Missionary, Ace of Spades, Viva, Dog Nobblers (various ) Boobies, Fritzes. If they were all as good as we were lead to believe, no doubt they would all have been banned. It is the method that catches the fish far more often than not, and not the fly.
I don't wish to sound superior, but I can't help feeling a little sorry for those who 'hide their flies'. TC

Hi T.C.,

Although i do agree with you that the method is highly important ...... the method still needs to be married to the best fly available on that given day to get the best result possible.
With respect if someone were to present a Whisky fly in the same mannor as say a pulling worm during the winter months ....
But it is a shame and like you i do feel that flies should be shared.

Fred.

I agree with the above comments on sharing fly patterns their are a lot of anglers up here in scotland who tell you they are catching with a dancer or damsel for example but wont show you the colour or size of the fly that is catching the fish

I think it's pathetic people hiding there flies. It's just greed, simple as. I'll not only tell what I'm catching on, if I've got a spare in my box I'll hand it out. Nothing better than seeing someone who's struggling catch fish after you've given them a fly, best feeling you can have.

I know someone that almost always catches on a bibio - but he almost always fishes a bibio.

I always carry 3 of each pattern. The rare occasion that I'm catching and others aren't means that I can fish one, have one as a spare and have one to give to someone else.
