Default Hardy Demon Reel

I purchased a Demon 5000 reel from Grommit a few months ago and have been very pleased with it.

I use the reel with my #7 rod/lines and it does the job extremely well. Changing spools is quick and easy, and although the reel is not the cheapest at least the spare spools are inexpensive - which is just as well as I have managed to fill eight of them

Default New Reel?

Tom,

I have 2 demon reels and have had them for approximately 12 -18 months.

Unfortunately within approximately 2 months from new, they both developed a fault with the release mechanism when wet, which released the spool at will, usualyy when casting!

Wrote to Hardy who acknowledged the problem which was also occurring elsewhere with other customers, and both both reels, were replaced. Unfortunately after a couple of months, these too suffered a similar problem when wet, and again Hardy were contacted and the reels replaced and too date these havve been fine.

On the positive note they are lovely looking reels, and the cartridge system works well, however, I have to say this experience has tempered my enthusiam, given that you spend in the region of £600 for two reels and spools.

I think that Hardy have resolved this issue, so if you thinking of buying one now you should be OK.

Tom,

These two reels still appear to be OK now, and I think my best mate is getting a couple when he gets back from New Zealand next year on the back of mine now doing what they should do.
