Thumbs down Nasty Man at Lakeland

Bought a cape from Lakeland at the Fly Fair on Sunday, very nice and the usual price, no problems.

Then watched Marc Petijean demonstrate his tools and techniques.

Decided to buy the tools from Lakeland as they were selling them by the side of Marc Petijean's demonstration stand. Thought it reasonable to ask for a discount as I was about to spend around £150 and would later buy the £600 vice and other items that Marc was using.

It is also reasonable for an asked for discount to be refused.

What I did find unreasonable was the unpleasant way the miserable "boss" on the stand made his refusal. If he reads this he may recall the incident.

It means that the cape I bought from his company was the first and last thing I will ever buy from Lakeland and I will discourage anyone I know from having anything to do with him and his business.

According to John Harvey Jones, the last thing you should do in a recession is give discount. Not sure if I agree with him, but £600 for a vice, there must be enough margin in there to give a discount.

to be fair lakeland are a very good company, I've had no problems and they are the only company that I have come accross with a well kept website, complete with a REAL stock check.

They sell quality products- no **** that you have to 'sieve' through. Cut em' some slack.

I'm sure if you offered to cover the costs of his stand he would give you the tools and vice for nothing.

Get real Richard, you chanced your arm and were rebuffed.

Until you have to deal with the charming Nigel. To be fair, they have one of the best product ranges, THE best website amongst tying retailers bar none, fair prices and some exquisite products under their own brand.
I was on the receiving end of one of Nigel's charm offensives once (I think John Harvey-Jones would have something to say about that too), but I wouldn't go as far as Richard by starting a boycott and imploring others to do the same. Apart from the fact that Nigel ain't broken any laws, you'd be simply cutting your nose off to spite your face. Stick to the website, don't interact with them and above all, never ever ask for a sample, a discount or a favour, no matter how much you spend with them, and you'll have many many pleasureable Lakeland experiences.

fairplay rob I'll bear that one in mind Does nigel do much fishing? I find that grumpy fishing shop workers tend to be the ones who don't do it themselves...

The guy at Lakeland maybe needs to learn that civility costs nothing.
