Default Fishing diaries.

Several years ago I started to keep a brief diary of events from each of my fishing trips. Nothing too deep. weather conditions, fly life spotted, wildlife seen etc.
In the last couple of years or so, I have elaborated slightly on the content.
I now apart from the above, put down river height and water colour, fish caught on what fly, water temperature, wind strength, pools on the beat which have been constantly productive, company with whom I fished, etc etc, and what time I was able to fish too, before the light went.
I even make a quick note on rod and reel, line # and how it worked for me in said conditions.
I find during the winter months, it is so nice to flick through it and remind myself of each and every day spent on the river and the fun enjoyed with friends. And I can remember them well with just a quick flick through the diary.
It's also a very handy reminder of just when approx to expect certain species of fly life to be hatching during the summer months.
Anybody else do this ?

I keep a record of my sea trout catches. Date, time of night, size of fish but that's about it. I've always been careful to try not to over analyse catch records as this can later lead to the arrival of a sea trout fisherman's nemesis, Waning confidence.

Stuart, never got around to calling you. Apologies. Will do next week.

Re the thread, do you find keeping a diary helps future fishing trips.

No problems mossie, you can get hold of me whenever you want.

For me the records don't really have any bearing on how I would approach my next session, they are more for posterity. Though occasionally I'll read a few and think "Ah, I haven't tried that spot for a while" but that's about it.

That goes without saying marmalade. Not to do so would be foolish, and far more important than fishing.
I think my diary is to make up for the short memory I seem to be devoloping, where am I, who are you.!!!

Default Good idea

Used do it for shooting days when I started off and was mad keen. Am going to start it for fishing next year if for nothing else filling catch returns. I like the idea of looking back in years to come and re living some of the special moments.

Now thats a good idea doing it with wine.

Why did i not think about that years ago.

How many times do you buy a nice bottle of plonk only to forget what it was called a few weeks later.
