Keep your money in your pocket for now, get some qualified instruction to get a good start, set a budget for your kit then compare a number of items within said budget to see what suits you, not us.

Also, ensure you take a packet of Wotsits and Quavers with you, invaluable bit of kit.

I would say the same as PP. Get some instruction first. Money well spent. Your instructor should help you with rod choice.

Also dont just go by recommendations from others. One mans meat and all that!
If you find a decent local tackle shop that will let you try before you buy it can save you alot of money in the long run.
I personally would never buy a fly rod without having a feel of it first.

Some great advice from PP,

Instruction first, try before you buy?

How many anglers have bought a rod through online stores without first trying, only to find it does not suit your style..............??? Too many.

Agreed. Just take a look in the classifieds. How many ads do you read saying
"For sale [insert expensive rod make here] only used once/twice"? Quite a few. Granted poetic license may have been applied to it's history. . but even so.
