Default New Mixed Trout and Coarse Fly Only Venue

I have just bought a venue with 7 lakes that was a very private coarse sydicate venue plus day tickets on the smaller lakes.

The Syndicate is removing their large carp next week from the 6 acre lake and I want to stock a couple of hundred Browns there to winter over.

I want to open the lake for weekends only when the Brown Season starts but offer mixed fly only there. I believe that the browns can co exist as there are some wilds there now anyway. The idea is a catch and release ticket with a per kilo take charge.

The reason for this is that I tried a pheasant tail 16 in the weir when vetting the place and caught a carp and a bream within 10 minutes. They fought harder than rainbow, took savagely and with care I returned them unharmed.

For me, its the fishing, not the eating. I am hoping that I can offer a venue for like minded fly fishers that is not over fished and offers variety.

Why is it here we fly for trout, in the USA the new big thing is fly fishing for carp?

I would interested to see how many of you think you would like to mixed fly fish in a semi still lake.

If I can post commercial info on opening dates I will and exact location however have not seen forum rules yet.

BT,

This sounds interesting to me, and I wish you well in your venture.

Personally, I am not one to just pack away or hang up my fly tackle at the end of the trout season, preferring instead to turn my attention to coarse species. (grayling, perch, chubb, pike etc). Also, being based on the south-coast, I indulge in a little salt-water activity as well. During the winter I also like to visit the stocked still/semi-still waters when a 'trout-fix' is needed. (along with the added bonus of a meal on the table).
I am a regular visitor to Chiphall (near Wickham, Hampshire), a semi-still stocked water, where the 'house-rules' are simply single fly only, keep the rainbows, and return everything else; and I have enjoyed many a happy hour targetting their population of Chubb, Perch and of course Browns. (the owner is an affable sort of bloke, who I am sure would be happy to offer the benefit of his experience in that regard, if you were minded to ask)

That said, my personal preference for flies is consistent throughout, and whilst I do not wish to diss' anyone who chooses to use live baits, worms, maggotts etc etc, that type of fishing is just not my cup of tea. I do however feel that permitting all methods in the same location at the same time do not mix that well. (a subject which has of course been well debated on this site).

One final comment - I am not a lover of fishing at all at the weekends (and indeed rarely fish then) at any time of the year, but of course appreciate that commercial realities are of paramount consideration in that respect.

Default Slight misunderstanding

When I say "mixed fly" fishing I mean the fish are mixed but would allow fly fishing only, no baits. Not even plastic dog biscuits......

Maybe if I re think the days I open, you could be my first Customer.

BT,

'First customer' - what a great idea, many thanks . . . .

On the face of it, I'd say that your idea of "mixed" fishing is a very good one, and I look forward to learning more as time progresses.

Hi Brightontrader,

I fish a small stillwater in Scotland (Bangour Fishery) there are 2 resident carp in this water.

There are a number of photos of some of the guys who caught and returned them, I spoke to one of the guys 2 weeks ago he said that the sport from the carp on the fly was Fantastic, I am looking forward to the summer months when I can try to tempt one of them...........I think there are people who go to the fishery in the hope of hooking one........

In short Yes I do believe that there could be a call for type of fishery and would like to wish you all the best in your venture.........
