Farlows on the Mall (sportsfish) Is good.
Bit high end stock but not over priced. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
The January sales are usually great!
Shops slowly recovering from management push towards Hooray Henries Hunting Gear, And re-opening up more extensive fly and fly tying stock sections. Great selection of lines tippets hooks and general necessities.

On South Kensington tube station there is a Game fishing shop called Graingers ( I think) A lot of catering for traveling anglers (bonefish etc). But good stock of lines, tippets, and fly tying. If they don't have it they will bend over backwards to find it for you.

There is a Sharps of Aberdeen, near Marlybone 67a, York St, London, W1H 1PQ. Bit rough and ready ,with limited stock of rods reels and fly tying stuff. But you get the feeling that these guys are fishermen, who put more effort into talking fishing than running a business. Not always a bad thing!

The Answer is Farlows On a Monday and ask for Robin.

Echo all the above:

Farlows are at the upper end of the market but do a WTT discount of 5% (as part of the Sportfish empire).

Grangers are excellent - again upper end stuff but really helpful (Gavin Hodgson is the manager and will spend as long helping you as you want). Test casting area round the corner in a quiet mews.

Orvis are ok if you want an Orvis product, but their advice is accordingly quite limited.

Hugh O'Reilly is the true gentleman of fishing retailers. An angling shop the likes of which I've never seen before and all the better for it. Carries the full spectrum of kit and is the only Scott stockist in the UK (as far as I know), and one of the few Danielsson stockists too. Friendly, endlessly helpful and will always make sure he gives you a great deal. Like Roy says don't go in if you're in a hurry, but if you spend a bit of time with Hugh you won't regret it.

Hughie ,does some great affordable fishing trips as well, his grayling days are somewhat legendary if only for the amount of food he gives you.
