In what way was the Rio Gold better than the Airflo, Shakey, Hardy, Cortland and Greys?

What was lacking in the others that wasn't in the Rio?

What models of the latter five did you use i.e. Greys Platinum, Cortland 444 Classic etc?

Default hi

I found that the greys etc had a lot of friction going through the eyes and the power just died, don't get me wrong they are good lines but the rio gold man o man it goes and goes and goes until it bangs off the reel...and lyes straight on the water, another good point is when the lines is at your feet it doesn't get tangled the rest have...thought this was a great asset...the greys clear intermediate line fish it in frosty weather the kinks are unreal, but then again its designed for zero temp.....

Have you tried one of my new lines Buzz?

I think the point Laurie was making was quality and performance versus price.

Even if I was loaded I wouldn't pay 55 squid for a tackle consumable such as a fly line.

At nearly four times the price of mine, I would damn well expect the Rio to be a better overall line but four times better?

Each to their own though eh.

The Pirate.

I think you're right, performance never goes up the scale exactly in line with the dosh. Most expensive items "might" be better but they're not as many times better as the price suggests.

Re then clear inter, almost all perform fairly badly in cooler conditions, they are mono cored and retain memory. You can't really make a comparison between a clear inter and a Rio Gold then.

Rio do have very good coating technology, although it comes with a price.

What line rating of Rio Gold do you have?

The Pirate.

The law of diminishing returns

For what it's worth I agree with Laurie, PP's line's would be difficult to beat.
