Question Leaders

I've only been fly fishing a few months, and I've always used a pre-looped tapered leader.
I apologise if this seems like a glaringly obvious question, but am I right in thinking that I could just use a 9 - 12ft length of mono / fluorocarbon tied to the fly line loop at one end, and the fly at the other?
For fishing wet flies and lures, I wasn't sure if it would make much difference.
Many thanks for any advice.

Keith

As Jim says, what you describe will work. Keep it as simple as you can, do not over complicate things when you are starting. There will be plenty time for complications when you are hooked...
