Default Just One Rod and Reel

When I started trout fishing in the early 1970s at The Queen Mother Reservoir, most anglers had just one rod normally a 6# and maybe a couple of reels, but in this day and age angler change their tackle with the weather. So here's a question if you could only have one of your rod and reel which one would it be and why? I see a very interesting item on You Tube called Jack's Rod it's about the late Jack Hargreaves and Charles Jardine uses his tackle amazing little video.

Good question, my choice would be...

Rod; Sage XP 10ft #6 (4 piece), can`t fault it for stillwater use, casts well, not too stiff, feels great with a fish on. Looks great.
Reel; Orvis Battenkill LAIII (old model), great looking, great drag, nice click and easy to change spool and clean. Basic and effective.

Cheers Diarmid.

Go onto counrty channel tv.
It has the second part of it.
Also it has loads of fly fishing in nz vids, and the series born to fish with Mike Hobbs.

Apart from my starting out with a ron thomson starter rod i have mainly fished with greys outfits i do have a hardy demon/others but i do prefer the greys G-tec 6-7# coupled with the 350 reel of the same make.

chris.

Very interesting fly box, using garter springs to locate the hooks.
Never seen that before, I suppose split foam has now revoloutionised fly boxes.
I might just try that method in an old box I have.
Sorry back to the question of just one rod and one reel, well for me, it's unthinkable.
