Post Tackle Insurance

I have been thinking for some time about insurance's for my fishing tackle, but don't know if its better to put it on my house insurance or contact some firm that deals with fishing equipment.
I would like to hear what other members do about this issue and if they have a separate policy or just use there house insurance?
Regards Robert

Its no till you sit down Davie and add up the price of all your kit, that it makes sense to have it insuranced
It would be a bloody lot of money to find, if some little scally wag stole it

Totally agree, i could be driving round in a nice little italian number if it wasn't for my fondness for sage and simms etc

Would this insurance cover flies? Don't know about you Robert but each of my boxes of flies would easily come in at a few hundred sheckles.

Hi', Robert, and All.
I have had my cameras and fiishing tackle covered by my House and Contents policies for the past twenty years and more, and had no problems wahatsoever with claims.
I think the first claim was for repair of a very nice Sony 8mm Video camera that got damp while a pal and I were sea-fishing off the rocks near Stornaway in 1993. That camera, incidentally, was worth about 3 good modern digital SLRs; so was my old Pentax LX, now gathering dust. So, although I'm never going to be a 'tackle-tart', I did indulge myself at one time with cameras, which is why I don't try to ridicule 'T-Tarts', as some people do.
I've had two claims for damaged rods; never got greedy or deceitful about their identity/value, and was happy to pay the £100 excess on the claims for their replacement.
My present insurance policy, like several preceding, covers me for goods away from home up to £1500 maximum for a single item. That was the cost
of the 8mm Sony video camera, coincidentally. Maybe I am lucky because of my age, as I insure through a company that caters for 'oldies'. I guess an outright sporting goods policy would cost me more; I've never checked to find out. Hope that helps a little. TerryC

Davie, if you look at the amount of money you spend on materials then add the time it takes to tie them
Roughly £1 a fly then count how many flies you have then if like me it probably works out easily £500 for flies
Thats alot of flies to sit and tie if you lose or get them stolen It would break my heart to lose my fly boxes

I have mine tied into house insurance. When I l looked into it some years ago it was far cheaper than a "specialised" one. Mine is with The Prudential & covers loss, theft or breakage new for old sporting goods (angling) from anywhere & in any circumstances. Annoying thing is I have never had the need to claim..........Sometimes feel like breaking something just to see what happens. As if I would. Too honest for my own good.

£1 a fly, god you are cheap

Think I would rather lose a Sage than a fly box.
