Default Braid Breaking Strain

I am thinking of using braid line for my leader now i am almost exclusively using lures and blobs and this should increase the sensitivity of my setup and allow me better hook ups. So could someone advise on what breaking strain to use as I think if i am right you have to use stronger braid than mono. Please help.

Thanks
Flyinghigh

What sort of braid are we talking here?

If you're talking about the sort of braid used for spinning or carp rigs - fused dyneema or similar - then as a factor of its inherent 'limpness' I'd say it's suitability as leader material is very questionable. In addition, do you not think that it might be a touch visible? Even when using braid for spinning the lure is attached to a length of mono that's secured to the braid by a knot such as a double grinner or uni knot.

Hi', FHigh. If you are thinking of using 'Gelspun' type material, which is a very fine braided line, with great breaking-strain, I'd say you were wasting your money. It is a popular choice, I believe, for spinning enthusiasts, as it is limp and doesn't have a tendancy to spring off the spool of either multipliers or fixed-spool reels while casting. I have 100 yards of the stuff, but never got round to putting it on a multiplier, as I don't support CandR for spring salmon, and don't fish for them before high summer.
If you're pulling lures, I'm pretty sure you would get away with any modern monofilament line -- copolymer, fluorocarbon or nylon -- that would hold the biggest stocked trout you are likely to encounter. Save your money. TerryC
PS I don't find sensitivity is an issue when pulling lures. Nymphing with wets of size 14 -- 18 would be a different consideration.
