Default Flourocarbon/Copolymer

Hi all still fairly new to this forum but do have a question.

What is the actual difference between flourocarbon and copolymer tippet material? As I understand it florocarbon sinks faster and is used for fishing your flies deeper and copolymer for dry/surface fishing, is this correct?

With so many makes for both available what do members recommend, I've read all the horror stories with regard to knot strength etc. I know Salmon anglers who use it, but it is a complete ball ache in a wind and knots are ****!

And lastly for the cost, is it value for money with regard to increased catch returns?

Ta for the advice.

Yep...thats the way I see it mouse. Fluoro sinks my skimpy wee dries in no time at all, I have to put up with co-poly.Unless yer dries are dressed like haystacks or you are a fan of lifting them off and laying them every 4 seconds...you should do the same .....

Hi', Jimmy. A funny thing about the specific gravity of fluorocarbon is that there are times when it defies gravity. I tend to put a two foot fluoro tippet on my dry fly cast, and I have to use a Fuller's Earth, home-made paste to sink it. And an application of paste is effective for about a half-dozen casts. all these things are, surely, sent to try us. TerryC

Gamma Frog Hair HIgh Performance Tippet for me. It's Copolymer I think and has great knot strength and is super fine. Highly Recomended!
