Default Collyer's retro lure challenge!!!

The venue:
Hazel Copse fishery
The date:
Friday 16th October
The challenge:
Fish 4 retro lures for 2 hours each between 07:30 and 16:00 hours (half an hour to stuff my face) and record how many fish are caught on each fly.
Brown corduroy trousers & mutton chop sideboards mandatory.
The contenders:
Ace of Spades
Appetiser
Sweeney Todd
Whiskey Fly

4 of each (which I will tie to the original instructions) will be taken with me, to be fished on an intermediate line in various locations at the lakes using various retrieves.

I will report my findings.
Personally I reckon the Whiskey Fly & maybe the Appetiser will bomb...

Please contain your excitement.

I remember using all of those when fishing with my father on Grafham in the late 70's .
My money has to be on the ......uuummmmm........hhhmmmmmm....... let me think.............Sweenytodd

PS: my father has his money on the Appetiser and was always his go to fly when things were hard .

Great idea by the way and can't wait to find out how it all goes .

Excellent idea Steve and i lookforward to the result. My money's on the appetiser or sweeny todd.. or or.. nope the Ace of Spades will, in my opinion win it... actually it's cloudy water so.. ah *** it, i havent a clue.. Incidentally, i do a similar thing to this with my Uncle every year at Grafham. He fishes Diawl Bachs and crunchers, and i fish moderns. every year for the last 5 has been identical. i whip him early on, usually get 5 to his 1, and then he claws it back untill by the end of the day he gets about 8 and i'm on 6-7. dont know what this proves, but it's a fun day out... One day i'm going to hook that 14lb brown on a D17 Minkie and he's going to give up the Diawl Bachs forever....

To be fair, I regularly use the Ace of Spades anyway & I've had about 10 out from Hazel Copse on it in the last couple of visits & probably 50 or more when I used to fish the place back in the late 1980's.

I think I've only ever caught 1 fish on the Whiskey Fly - but then I hardly ever used it.
I've had quite a few on the Sweeney & Appetiser though, but haven't fished either fly since 1989!

Results are in!
Another great day at Hazel Copse. Caught 10 & lost a few others.
Here's how I did with regards to fish c & r'd:

Ace of Spades (08:00-10:00) = 2 fish
Appetiser (10:00-12:30) = 5 fish
Sweeney Todd (13:00-15:00) 0 fish
Whiskey Fly (15:00-17:00) 3 fish not including a smash-take right at the end.

I'm surprised that I didn't get more on the Ace of Spades. Also that I didn't even get a pull on the Sweeney Todd.
The Appetiser was superb, but the dark horse of the day was the Whiskey Fly.
Had numerous pulls on it apart from the 3 I took & also the 1 that smashed the fly.

A great day & a fun (if totally knackering) experiment.
