Default Pike rod?

I am in two minds on weather to go pike fishing with the fly in the close season but i am wanting to know if my 9ft 6/7# rod would be able to handle a good pike or would i have to get a 8 or 9# rod?

Thanks in advance

To be able to cast the big pike flies you will need something quite a bit heavier.

A 10 weight and if your fishing with a floater use an 11 weight it will help greatly with turnover.
