PART TWO.
The next day, Monday, dawned similarly beautiful, and thank God without the wind! Our guide, a great guy called Jock Monteith met us after breakfast and took us to the fishing hut, on the opposite bank from our previous days exploits!
The sheer, historical fun of the place was overwhelming, as as rods were made up you just couldnt help feeling lucky to be alive!
Having been ferried accross the river we quickly trotted upstream to work it back with a 'Flying C', o.k., I know not strictly a fly............but hell its the Tay, last week of the season, and all the guides wanted a catch!

A fabulous view from every spot we fished, feeling a bit humbled by the place I could wait to have my Speycasting lesson, and get a big rod into action.
I was encouraged by our intrepid guide 'Jock' to wade deep, and without the rippling, blinding wind from the previous day this was indeed a great experience with a spey casting set up!
The lunch break, saw only one fish having been caught and returned to a Belgian chap, a Grilse of about 4 lb.
Sara, decided that she too wanted some fly action, so Jock was quick to help her out.............well who could blame him? Me or a pretty girl???
Despite fishing the new pool that we were standing in, very thoroughly, with firstly fly and then spinner, not much strirred!
The hip flask was emptying, Jocks 'Patter' was still enthusiastic, and Sara, you know the 'WOMAN' grabbed the spinning rod after we rested the pool for 20 mins or so, and third cast, both Jock and myself watched as a fish jerked her line...................and promptly let go!
The very next cast, we both watched her intently again...........'WALLOP'.
A very spirited scrap commences. The Salmon quite intent on not getting netted, Jock quite intent that it will, and Sara played the fish like an old 'Pro', Jock Slamon wrestled the fish into the net like an 'Older Pro'!
'Ney Bother', she was in the net, a massive Salmon that he estimated to be a '20'. She looked bigger to me!
Fish promptly returned, and after a short revival swam off very strongly to rejoin her buddies, and hopefully make her way to the spawning grounds.
From that moment on, to say Jock and I couldnt get a word in would be an understatement, she did her usual thing and banned me from entering the river.................

'Get Back.............Back From The Tay'!
A truly fantastic trip, fantastic guiding, and amazing surroundings, its fair to say that we have caught the Salmon Bug, and absolutely will be back again, in the new season. Thanks to Jock Monteith and the guys on the Newtyle Beat for making our first Salmon trip such a memorable one.
www.speycasting.blogspot.com being 'our mans' website!
The journey back home was interspersed by the customary visit to the House Of Hardy H.Q in Alnwick, suffice to say I know what I want from Father Christmas!
I hope this isnt to long winded, but it was fun compiling.
Regards
Jas.
N.B. My old mate Tim, a regular Salmon fisher, said to me........................................' Nobbie, Never take a bird Salmon fishing, they will make you look a right TW4T'.........he's not wrong!
