Default Best year... so far

I can say that this year has been my best year so far for fishing. Mainly, because for years I thought that there wasn't anyway to fish without a car and only went out a handful of times a season. BUT this year I seeked out a few places on bus/train routes and been out a handful a month. I think joining this forum has helped as well

The things that have made this year the best are :

1) I have seen a dramatic change in my casting (for the good!). I actually think this is due to teaching a friend how to cast and going back to basics helped a lot;

2) Caught my first Blue Trout... nice 3lber;

3) Caught my first fish on a dry fly. I'm gonna blame my dad for this one... he never dry flied fished so I never did but this year made it one of my goals;

4) Caught my first fish on a fly I tied myself. Which surprised me cause I am the worst fly tyer in the world.

5) Caught my first river Brownie. It was in the River Almond. This was only thanks to the expert tution of my best made who knows the river like the back of his hand.

So anyone else had a year that stands out fishing wise?

Cheers,
Scott

Hi,

Yeah this has been a good year for me, caught my personal best rainbow trout, only 5.2lbs but getting bigger, lol, going for 10lbs plus during the winter hopefully (ok a big jump but need to aim high), also myself and my mate went on a fishing trip up north, we were away for 3 nights and camping, loved every minute of it and we are already planning next years trip, cant wait.

I also starting catching alot on dry fly and so much more enjoyable way to fish.

Glad you had a great season Scotty.
Next season you'll have to decide on a few new 'firsts' to aim at.

I'm a fellow public transport user. A mountain bike is my other mode of transport. Actually I need the bike to cycle 4 miles to where I can get the public transport, but you have to put some effort in!
My personal record was cycling 4 miles, 20 miles on a train, then another 8-10 miles winding uphill to a lake. Fished for around 8-10hrs (a lot of walking). Kipped in a tent for about 3 hrs in a howling gale, couldn't sleep so up at 3am and did the return route. Knackered doesn't describe it. haha It's good to do that sort of thing occasionally though... very infrequently is best!

I've had a pretty good year, its my first so got nothing to benchmark against.

This year I have:

Caught my first fish on a fly

Caught my biggest fish on a fly (well duh), a 4.5lb overwintered rainbow

Caught my first fish on a fly of my own tying, a black and red holo diawl bach

Caught my first reservoir brownie, also on a fly of my own tying (on the same day as the above, good day that one )

I'm sure there are other highlights, but those are the ones that spring to mind
