Default Camera

Family camera was too bulky, so i bought a cheap slimline effort at the start of the season which gave me what i was probably asking for.....cr@p grainy quality which failed to show up the colours of the wild trout.

One river trip in June during the gloaming where i caught a good fish around 3lb resulted in nothing to look back on as the flash on the thing refused to come on.

So, any suggestions on a decent quality camera ? (must be slimline) While i'm at it i might as well look at a waterproof model.

I'm not intending entering any photo competitions so does not need to be high end, but will probably look at something second hand to allow me to get a better model.

Thanks,

PPS

I've got a couple of cameras but if it's a slimline one you want i'd go for one of the casio exilim's...

I got mine when they first came out 4 or 5 years ago and it's never let me down. The one i've got is 7.2million pixels but i'm sure the new ones are at least 10million and you can pick them up for about £150 or less on ebay...

Great site, helped me make my mind, I`m getting the Nikon D5000, thanks for the link. Oh I use an old Fuji Z3 slim 5mp for fishing, it has a macro and 6x dig/optical zoom too. You could pick one up on ebay for a few quid.
good luck Peter.
P.S.have a look at my forum album all taken with the Z3.

Personally I've always been a Nikon user, and have used ther digital SLR's since they first became available.

However, their range of compacts seems to have dropped off over the years, and when I went to upgrade my Nikon coolpix compact I ended up getting a Panasonic Lumix.

The TZ series is excellent and gives up to 12x optical zoom whilst remaining relatively compact. They also use Lecia lenses, and quite often come top in reviews such as The Gadget Show, etc.

Given the decent zoom, can be 40 x plus including digital, and good image quality I wouldn't get sucked into the "as many mega pixels as you can" race, as this is totally uneccsary and takes up more space than is really needed.

Whilst not described as waterproof, or even rsistant, I have had mine in all kinds of inclement weather to no detrement.

Have alook, see what you think.

Kind regards,

Phil

I have the TZ6, great camera. The 6 has 12x optical zoom and 10mp, i find it more than enough for my needs. The hardware is excellent and the onboard software seems very good at sorting the lighting settings for me

I'm a bit scared to drop it in when fishing though.
