Hello everyone.

Does anyone know if Pendle View allow you to hire the tackle?

Thanks for your help.

I think so. Give them call to make sure.

Hello SharkeyP.

Thanks for the help. My dads interested in going but seeing as though we have only one rod and reel thought we'd see if we can hire them. I will give them a ring tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Tom.

Tom,

Post a quick thread to say how you got on there.

I passed Pendle View about a week or so, on my way back from Clitheroe, and it looks worthy of a visit.

Would be interesting to hear how you got on.

Kind regards,

Phil

Hello Phil. Took my mum, dad and nan for a day out there on Sunday. A few people were catching quite a lot on cats whiskers I think ( Wasn't until later on I had a look at the book and that's what was catching ).

My dad had one on a Bloodworm ( Very kindly given to me by SharkeyP ). I had 1 on a yellow blob and 2 on a cats whisker with quite a fast retrieval. You're most probably better than me and my dad lol so it's worth a visit.

I met SharkeyP down there about a week ago and I done everything he explained to me and it worked. Which was, a long leader works well, the closest side to the path ( down the hill ) is where he told me to fish on my first time and it produced then as well as yesterday ( Sunday )

What I've noticed when I've been there is that most anglers have kept it simple. No droppers or whatever and they have caught fine. I can 100% recommend a Bloodworm on a slow retrieval, yellow blob and cats whiskers. What also work there are terrestrial flies ( Havn't tried a lot, only the bloodworm ).

I'd say, keep it simple, use terrestrials and have a look at the book when you sign in to see what's catching. If you do go, let us know how you got on.

Good luck.

Tom.

Glad you managed to repeat your success Tom, and got the family involved too. Did they also sample the ice cream they advertise in the style of a well known Danish lager, probably?

Was it the Black and Green Cats I gave you that you caught on or one you've bought? I think I ought to tie a few more variations of those. They are easy to tie and they certainly catch fish.

You ought to try to catch on dries and emergers next, take your skills up a step. Daddies, Beetles and suspender buzzers work well there if it's not too bright or still.

Cheers,

SharkeyP

Finally found out what the b*gg*rs are feeding on when they sip at the surface (frustratingly) - had 6 yesterday including one on a sz20 midge (brown hackle, olive body, foam wing). I fished it off the back of a hi-vis Klink NZ style to help with my myopic deficiency. They will also take a small griffiths gnat - in my case literally as I was snapped at the first pull.

The Sunburst fritz with FL Green (marabou) tail also worked well on here, followed by switching to the classic "Fred" blob once they'd gone off that.

We tried a few dry flies but I don't think our retrieval was correct lol we got no interest at all!.

Could possibly be going next Sunday if anyone fancies it? Speaking to SharkeyP earlier on in the week and I will definitely need to increase our fly collection! Identifying the flies, I must admit, is the hardest thing I've had to learn wether it be fly fishing or course fishing!

SharkeyP. We didn't no. Are the ice creams nice? I will have to try one if I go on Sunday. Danish lager? Mmmmmmmmmmm Sounds nice. I think I will wait until my dad drives to try one of those ( Obvious reasons ) I got me and my dad few flies from the shop. You're exactly right SharkeyP. I seen a angler over the other side of the lake using a green and white Cats whisker with a lot of success. The Bloodworm you kindly gave me was deadly! Sadly, my dad lost it! I wasn't very happy with him lol

noeyedeer I will have to have a look out for those flies and give them a go! I was wondering what they were feeding on when we where there. Tried a few dry flies but they didn't show any interest at all.

Tom,

Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your experience.

I have just tied a batch of Cats in various hook sizes and colours, so would be interesting to see which is the most popular.

I have also put together some blood worms, based on a mixture of patterns I have seen, so would be good to try those out too.

Interestingly enough I have had my most recent success using a Diawl Bach on a size 14. I have found quite a few variations on pattern, but have only so far tied the red holographic pattern.

Might be worthy of a try sometime, though flies do seem a personal thing, and I suppose there are a multitude of patterns for each occasion.

Kind regards,

Phil

That's not a problem Phil. Yes. It will be interesting to see which pattern works the best. I'm not sure which pattern of Bloodworm my dad was using but it was red with 4 little leg type things, 2 coming off the eye of the hook and 2 coming from the bend. I'm not sure if this is the regular way to tie the bloodworms lol The cats whisker was a white and green one. The retrieval for the cats whisker was quite a fast one. Had a lot of interest with that but in the margins I was running out of line before they would take it.

2 out of the 3 fish I had was casting to them. I seen them top tried to cast to them and luckily enough I had a few takes. If you fancy trying you're flies out I'm probably going to go on Sunday ( weather is supposed to be nice and sunny ) if you fancy it I will meet you there. As SharkeyP noticed, I use a coarse fishing landing net and pole lol So I do look a novice I will have to buy myself one soon.

Let me know if you want any company and I might cya there.

Tom.
