Default Stolen gear

I’ve seen a few posts on here talking about people having fishing gear stolen. I always thought to myself that I’d be gutted if it happened to me. It has. My car was broken into on Wednesday night and my tackle bag was stolen. As well as all the gear I’ve accumulated this year, it also contained my prescription sunglasses which were really expensive (polarising lenses). More painful than the financial loss is the loss of all my flies, not a huge number, around 200, but they were all the flies I’ve ever had, the first ones I caught on, many were ones I tied myself so are irreplaceable.

I thought I’d post a description on here in case anyone sees it for sale on ebay or something. If you do please let me know by PM so I can contact the police.

The bag is a black and green Airflo bag. It contained my waterproofs (grey sprayway jacket and black unbranded trousers). Airflo X-stream reel with 3 spools, 1 with a yellow floating line and one with a green intermediate on the spool and 1 empty. Three fly boxes, 1 large black containing a selection of wet flies/nymphs. 1 Small black with lures. Finally and the most unique item in the kit was a red box containing some hoppers and daddies. The box was a freebie from anglers mail about 10-15 years ago so is quite unusual.

Luckily the person responsible ran off when he was heard by a neighbour who raised the alarm so my rod/waders and fly tying kit were left untouched. Lucky really.

I’m not usually so careless as to leave my stuff in my car, it was a one off, but just goes to show you can get caught out. I’ve recently moved house and come back from a camping holiday, I also picked up some tables on my way home after fishing that evening which I took up to the flat when I got home. It was 9pm and I hadn’t had dinner yet, so I decided for once to leave it til the next day to move the stuff, big mistake, lesson learnt.

Look after your stuff, don’t give these a***holes an easy opportunity, they will take it.

Really horrible experience.
The feeling you would have endured just cannot be put into words.
Usually the household contents insurance would have a limit on what is insured in transit or just in your car.
I do not have any qualms about taking insurance companies for what may be my available claim.
My insurance agent once told me that it was easier to say it all fell in the lake so I got my claim through that way.
Your car insurance may be worth looking at as well.
Your friendly fishing tackle shops will "provide" you with hand written reciepts if they knew they were going to get extra business.
I know that some things are not replaceable, but do have a look at how you may get some sort of recompense.

Not sure, I'll ring them tonight and give it a go. My car insurance only covers up to £100 possesions, doesnt even come close

Does anyone have glasses cover? Do you know if it covers loss/theft as well as damage. just a thought

Having had the same happen , The insurance companies will cover on all risks as long as the items were in the boot and locked... I foolishly admitted my glasses and stuff were in the glove box and they wouldnt pay up....

It was locked, and in the boot. Unfortunately the seats were down so it was visible, so i think that might scupper my chances of a claim. Worth a try though.

that really is a shitter MOT.
where about in the country are you, most likely the thief just saw a bag and took his chance, not knowing what was inside, there really are some scum bags.
my car was stolen last year, left the keys on the kitchen table, next to my laptop and £600 cash.
knew exactly what they were after, police rekon going straight to ireland on order.
anyway sound like a lot of stuff with a good description keep a look out.
