Default Best place to sell old fishing books and tackle catalogues – any suggestions?

I’m in one of those ‘let’s get rid of some stuff’ moods, and I’ve a few old books and tackle catalogues that I know have some (but not great) value to collectors. But I’m very aware how important condition is with things like books and I’m wondering if anyone on here would like to suggest how the best price might be achieved. Sell through a specialist dealer? EBay? Sell in the classifieds here?

David,
Why not try and establish what the price of them might be - two links at the bottom - and them place them on the forum at a modest discount. You would need to discount the books by a good deal though to make up for the mark up that a dealer would place on them. But having said that if you discount them by say 20% then the purchaser is getting a great deal and so are you.
Here is the two links:

Thanks Phillip. I know David Grayling, and have sold through J&J Head before. There are some interesting disparities in prices starting to appear. For example, a book listed at JJH at £65 appears in DG's list at £35. I'll keep building the list.

I have for many years collected old fishing books... I also sometimes buy and sell,
Finding out what the real value is can be a bind... The trouble is when you look for a value on a particular book there may be very few for sale at the time and there will be a spread of issues and condition and things like the DJ are all very important.
I have a about 20 years worth of dealers price lists and catalogues. Which I find are a great help for pricing ,Hereward books are very good for issueing realistic prices...Often dealers will list books at very inflated prices as you have noticed.

At the end of the day the value is whatever people are willing to pay..

I would suggest that to get the best value you list on EBay I have found the months either side of christmas can be very good for selling this type of thing... ie people buying pressies or spending xmas money...Dealers will buy but they will expect to buy at a price which allows them a good margin. A book may stay on their shelfs for a long period before a buyer arrives..However set yourself a realistic reserve ebay is a funny thing I have put items for sale and they have failed to make reserve then two weeks later they have made double it,,

Again very useful. Thank you. Do you know if its considered to be acceptable to put stuff of this kind onto ebay, and use these forums to alert a targeted audience to the fact that they're there? Or is it considered a breach of etiquette?
