Default River Tummel

I've hired a lodge at Kinnloch Rannoch for the week and as luck would have it the River Tummel runs 100 yards from the back door
The fishing is included is the cost of the lodge and I'm looking for advice and which type of fly/method to use.

I'm new to fly fishing and still to get off the mark so any advise would be greatly appreciated. Also I've only ever fished stillwaters so any pointers on river fishing would be good.

For salmon you could get by with a hefty trout rod (10ft 8weight) and lots of backing line and a good reel. If that's your set up some Ally's Shrimps or Cascades in various sizes would give you a good chance of a salmon. Fish by casting 45 deg to the far bank and let it swing round in the current. 10-12lb leader.

Likewise of trout you could use a lighter set up and use the same method with little wet flies such as spiders in sizes 16-12. Good starting flies are black spider and greenwells spiders, woodcock and orange. If you want something heavier try a gold head hares ear. 4-5lb leader

Hard to sum it all up but a "starter for ten".
