Default which intermediate for your money ?

i have done all my fishing on small still waters and small reservoirs (thornton)
on a cortland 444 floating line with different leader set ups until last week.
i have visited draycote 3 times within the last week, twice from the bank and today on a boat when i borrowed a intermediate line from my boat partner.
obviously i need to have an intermediate line within my tackle bag, which would you recommend?

cheers
charlie.

Easy answer, whatever you can afford, cortland do a nice one,
airflo,
guideline
scierra, hardy,
greys the choice is endless, whatever your money can buy is the best answer,
you can get a specialist line with all sorts of things it can do but to be honest you just need a line to throw from your rod, so id ask grommit on this forum and he will kit you out

Airflo slow glass - none stretch, casts like a dream and doesn't sink to fast like some do. Just my opinion.

thanks mf
i have been very happy with my cortland floater, do different brands have different sink rates? can theses be relied on or is the choice more about casting control.

All have a different sink rate. The cortland blue is a great all-rounder, as is the kell green although i have had problems getting the kelly green to sink when it is new. Still a lovely line to fish with though.

Everyone on here will have their own opinion but i think the airflo slow glass is the most versatile as it sinks slowly allowing you to fish your flys slowly without going straight to the bottom.

Get your hands on a SA wet cel 1 aka Kelly green, fantastic line to cast, doesnt coil up,and lasts twice as long as other intermediate lines ive had,the coating does not tend to crack as easily for some reason.

I like the Cortland blue a lot and use it pretty often but it's a pretty "quick" intermediate and there are days when the kelly green is the one to go for or even the Scientific Angler SSI. Here's a run down of popular inters and their sink rates in inches per second....

Airflo slowglass----------0.5
SA SSI------------------0.75-1.25
Airflo fastglass----------1.5
Snowbee XS Neutrtral---1.14-1.86
SA Kelly Green----------1.25-1.75
Cortland blue-----------1.5-2.0

You mention you borrowed an intermediate from your boat partner, what was it? If it caught you some fish you'd do worse than getting one of those.

You could join the fishtec 'club' and get the Airflo fast and slow glass lines for £35, just have a look on their website.

Or have a chat with the Pitsford Pirate, I'm sure he could sort you out.
