I attended Angling Auctions' bi-yearly yesterday and one item was a bunch of 4 or so nice glass rods from trout up to salmon and there was absolutely zero interest in it and it went for much lower than the suggested price, from memory about £70 or so. In amongst the high priced items in the tens of thousands, items like these can be snaffled for a song!

The new ones on board have to realise that we old wrinkly's used these things in our youth, in my case 40odd years ago. They were the cutting edge tools at the time & helped shaped the way we are & what we use today. So nostlgia every time, bring it on I say. As for me can not get enought of it. Can the same thing be said about a C& F flybox,or Airflo line in 40 years time. I think not.

Nice collectors item but you're surely not intending to use a glass rod?

My friend in Slovenia up until quite recently when he converted to cane was a big glass fan. Probably not suitable for every task, such as SWF, but it is still a very viable material, and stronger than carbon/graphite.
And unless you've been holed up in a dungeon for the past couple of years then you'll know that ther's been a big resurgence in glass and many top named manufacturers have been racing to get out their glass models, as well there are some who specialize solely in glass.

Glass fibre has certain attributes, much like split cane which is capable of flexing against it's own weight and because of this is able to cast very accurately over short distances. Glass fibre or split cane would also suit double handed salmon rods, although this sort of fishing is not in my sphere of experience.

Where carbon is superior is in single handed rods capable of casting long distances.

I remember an article that fibre glass rods action changes with the uv light unlike carbon fibre, but for the ordinary distances there will be no noticable diffrerence.

Just may be a case of if you do purchase the new ones being made, keep them covered when not in use.
