I thought i was prepared for a compy to day,but never planned to get right back to basics.
Had all my casts made up ready, lines,and flys (so I thought)that fish would like for bfast, dinner and tea.all ready to go.

The day
Up early tackle all ready.Apart from having the trots,not a good sign.Frost on the ground,clear skies and all tackled up, looking good,off to pay,NO WALLET.bad omen no 2,Son to the rescue.Pegs drawn,not a good one to start,another omen,so off we go,getting warmer,hit a fish and off intermediete line,as fishing sense said fish should be deep.after 3 pegs and cooked ,sweating,dressed for winter,off come the clothes,still no fish,not many getting caught but they seemed to be in certain areas and all the pegs we landed were not them,still floating line tried,then midge tip still nothing,fish should be deep in these conditins but seeing a few on top,tried dries,nowt,tried suspender buzzers they should work as they seem to be just below,nope.Sun is red hot,burning,frustration in and the mind goes,change this ,change that.Afternoon session .better pegs,ghost tip on and black seems to be the colour with lime.On goes a nomad lime and black ,fish on fish off and away taking my one and only nomad.look for a fritz,no chance ,everything else but a fritz,small flies,buzzers,nymphs,blobs,BUT no b....dy fritzs.

On with a bunny leech and slow figure of eight and fish on,please save me from a blank,out in ,out in nearly to the net,shlt,out of the net,and back again,and in.some face saved. a few more touches after that and that was the end.

The learning
Then it was a case of what went wrong.Along with learning some thing aswell

One the weather shouldnt have been like it was.Letting frustration kick in and changing too often than normal,dressing for antarctica,Fish not doing what they should be in the given weather.basics went out the window and having no fritzs,just all the special stuff and tarditionals,which didnt work on the day.Using clips.Now I have alot of confidence in them and yes you do lose fish now and then,so from now on in a compy, never will I use them,but the main things are for me,I didnt fish the way I would normally,prepared differently,let frustration get to me, and never had a black and lime fritz.Just showed you are never too old to learn from a fishing outing.
But I did enjoy it and it was hard and at least gained from a learning experience and finally sussed what i should have done ,albeit too late.

Sorry if it bores you.But does any sound familiar?

Ps Could have always blamed the stocking,but I know it wasnt that.Still its easy this fluff chucking lark for silly rainbows.ISNT IT?

Sounds all too familiar!
I don't really prepare for what i think the fish will be on. I have lots of everything. I'm a loser and have six of every colour, size and material variation (fritz or chenille, for example) of all sorts of flies neatly in my boxes. I've learned that fish can often fck up your day through behaving in ways they shouldn't. Last year the best days we had were on hot, calm, bright days. Eh??? Went out yesterday to a beautiful stillwater, nice breeze, generally overcast, cool, although warm enough for a couple of small hatches. What better conditions? Well i would have blanked if the missus didn't decide to chuck her crusts over the side of the boat.
So now i take everything, prepare nothing (apart from some sarnies with crusts the missus doesn't like) and expect nothing, i just see what happens when i get there.
Oh and i do blame the stocking. It's never my fault i'm shi t!
