Exclamation Diabetes

I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. Happily the medication is working until today. Was on Melvin, bit blowy and used the back oar a lot. Felt weaK AND CAME IN. MARAZION MIDGE KNOWS WHERE . Got home and did a test. Sugars in the boots.
Filled up with tea and sugar and am ok now.
Posted this in case anyone else is in the same position as me. Was not on the beer last pm.
Hope no one takes offence.

I'd be upgrading to a 25 hp Mariner for the tub... get you home quicker for the sugar fix!

A very long standing friend of mine had a hypo in glencoe this summer. If I did not have a wee bit of knowledge ,he was a gonner.but luckily for him (and me) I got it sorted (had to call out the paramedics(they were great and quick) but the phone 999 were terrible.
If you are diabetic, You need to tell your fishing pals what to do.It may save your life.

If you are using up too much energy and maybe just had your insulin(type 1) even with a meal snack it might just tip the balance too much especially if you are new to your condition as it often needs some fine tuning! The diabetic nurses are usually the best port of call and will advise your best plan sometimes if you know you are going to be using lots of energy they may say miss your insulin before or reduce it by ? amount of units,as I said a balancing act and as others said lots of quick fix sugar dextrose get hypostop gel from doc and make sure someone knows what to do if you do get unwell even if that is only calling 999.

Best of luck and keep fishing ps get a good outboard too Lol

Pete

I was diagnosed with Type 2 a couple of years ago and as my old friend said.

"Yeah you got the gay one" I bust out laughing (what can one do)

I do try to control my weight etc.. but I do realise that my condition is more controllable by my habits etc.. all a case of me having the right mind set.

Some good advice on here as usual.

Thank you all. So glad I found this forum. Suppose was too casual about matters in that I never thought about the energy used in working the back oar.
Certainly the Mars bar and Lucozade is going in bag as of ten minutes from now.
Dont think I can afford a 25hp Mariner!
Grateful to you all.

Im T2 , but always carry some glucose tabs with me cause i dont eat before fishng as i suffer from ibs too, amung other things, ive had some orrible moments when ive gone into heavy sweats , heavy breathing and dizziness with my body feeling very weak, not great when at the water side, ill be coming off avandia and metformin on to byetta soon hopefully that will work better, certainly want off of avandia , you dont get a second chance with that if you have a heart attack, YER DEAD not good for an overweight, smoker with family history of heart attacks
Always go prepared carry meds, a meter and some form of food, antiseptic, a patner who know what to do and a mobile, diabetes isnt something you F*** around with, if you are on yer own i would suggest telling the fishery owner to keep an eye on you now and again,Take it seriously or shall i list some of the things that can happen to you, including DEATH? its not a minor illness!
