Default river leven fife

Hi years ago i used to be in a club that was on this water, but it folded and ive never fished it again,i was thinking of giving it a try next season for the brown trout as i only fish with a four weight normally on the clyde but its handy as its just along the road a fw miles there are salmon and seatrout run it,i had a walk along it today with my dogs and spoke to a few guys who were spinning obviously for salmon, one guy said he has been caught 5 times over the past few years with forth bailiffs but insists he will still fish it as he has done since he was a boy ,this guy is about 50,the question is he said to me dont go thinking you can fish here for browns as the bailiffs will take all your gear waders and all, and if you have your car keys they will take your car as well so take your chance if you like, he said the browns were stocked years ago and this is what the bailiffs take into account but i know it has had wild browns in it for years and it also holds some escapee rainbows does anybody on here know if this can be right surely you can fish for brown trout i dont want to lose my gear as my rod and reel come to about a thousand pounds alone and i also have a shotgun cert, and a firearms liscence, i must have walked about 8 miles upstream from the mouth of the river and there is not one sign saying no fishing whatsoever, pity a poor chap that passes and says ill have a cast here if he sees others fishing, can anyone tell me what the law on this is as its quite good for the small browns on wets and dries, but i dont want a criminal record as well

The stretch from the sluices to the bridge at the Scotlandwell bridge used to be run by the guy in the house at the sluices, from there to just below Auchmuir bridge was always free, below that to Leslie used to be run by Leslie Angling Club [never met a balliff on that stretch in over 30 years]. Spoke to a couple of guys, whilst fishing Lomond Hills, who fish the area around Glenrothes through the town park and they don't pay. I personally have spoken to the council and they were unable to give me any information whatsoever. From there down I can't help you.

I was taught to fly fish at Auchmuir bridge, by Auld Bob, god rest his soul, probably 35 years ago. Loch Leven Trout [yellow bellies] up to 3lb were caught regulary. At the same time as the Loch went downhill so did the cut. It is starting to pick up again, the evening rise, not to the extenct of yesteryear, but here's hoping.

So what area were you walking the dogs?

Default River Leven

Our club still has the written permissions from the landowners on the stretch that was Leslie Angling Club, now Leslie & Glenrothes AC. I have been a club member since 1980 and secretary for much of the time since and we have not fished or run the fishing on the Leven during that time. Presumably the fishing rights have reverted to the riparian owners due to our lack of interest.

I walk it almost every day with the dogs as I live nearby. I must admit I have never seen a fish rise in all that time I have spent on its banks. However I have seen plenty of people spinning (including on Sundays and after the season has finished).
I would love to fish it for trout but there are too many salmon in it for them to let it go.

yes it was given back to the crown so hopefully we will get the lease and get it up and running again and permits will be issued at a small cost. as a new club we hope to do a good job,and get the river a name for itself as a good fishing water. peter
