Default co-polymer

Hi folks, i'm off fishing next week and the place we're going to requires a more imatitive approach i'm told so i've armed myself with buzzers, bibios, mclarens and snatchers which i'm told work very well at the place we're going to. Now my question is this...i usually just use flourocarbon but i'm told a floating line with a co-polymer leader is the best way to target fish in the top 3ft of water as the leader will sink but very slowly holding my flies in the top column of water for longer periods, the catch reports for the water we're going to says a large number of fish have been caught in the top few feet of water so im going to try the method above. so i dont need to apply sinkant or floatant to my leader and just let it sink my flies naturally??

as you may have guessed im just a novice

I'm not too comfortable with copolymer, I found that it seemed to snap too easily on takes.

This was 5x 4.22lb "fulling mill world class" and the fish were 1.5 - 2.5lb rainbows.

I've stopped using it and use 5.5lb mono, hi-tec or flouro now.
It may be the way I knotted it (an improved clinch knot) although I was careful to do it slowly and wet the line.

Good luck!

I have no problem at all using the rio powerflex co-polymer.The 5 and 6.4lb are great for nymphing.Supple and thin diameter too.

Cheer`s

If you tell folk which water you are going to they may well be able to help you with whats catching and what isnt ,what retrieve, depth etc etc

I've not had a problem with copolymer so far & I've had up to around 7lb'ers on 6lb or 5lb tippet.
I just use a 4-turn water knot for leader-to-leader & the 4-turn grinner knot for tippet to fly.

For the grinner knot just thread the eye, take 4 turns around the line, then make a loop with the part with the turns in.
Next thread the end of the leader through this new loop 4 more times, wet well, pull everything snug & tight & hey presto!
Much better than a tucked half-blood knot.
