Default Scotland's Premier Angling & Shooting Show..Anyone going

As above, anyone off to the Scotland's Premier Angling & Shooting Show this weekend?

Had a look at the website but the info is p1ss poor regarding what they actually have to offer for both shooters and anglers.

Was thinking of taking a trip up but not so sure if it'll be worth it!

I was thinking of going to the show but based on the website, I reckon I'll give it a miss as well. I noticed that GAC are having another big open weekend with several big names which will no doubt take away a lot of potential attendees from the show.

Unknown to me buzz, BASC, SONIK and not much else on website

I think I'll just go along to the GAC instead, didn't know they had open day, plus it won't cost £8-00 just for the opportunity for someone to sell you something LOL!!

£8 to get into a glorified tackle shop lol.basically that is all it is.loads of stalls trying to sell their worths. think i'll give it a miss
gac have the right idea.FREE FOR ALL! and they will probably still sell 1000's of £s worth of tackle and make a profit!

Wee update:

Well, the misses was away riding this a.m. so I thought I’d pop over to Edinburgh just to see if “Scotland’s Premier Fishing and Shooting Show” was indeed as it’s name suggested…………………….. & in a word NO, it was P1sh.

£3-00 parking, £8-00 in and only a handful of the smaller Game fair type stalls minus the good discounts and deals.

One flytying display and the rest seemed to be “Kenyan Runner” stalls and the like. Very disappointing turn out of contributors

Only deal I got was 2 Mora skinning/gutting knives for £12-00

Very little in the way of “Kwality” items, most 2nd guns weren’t in very good condition either.

However, on my way back home I thought I’d detour into the Glasgow Angling Centre as its open weekend started today.

What a difference, and at no cost!!!

First stop, Hakan Norling demonstrating some new items, ½ turbo cones and tiny tungsten tubes, showed me a Swedish tube called the “Banana” very nice indeed

Next was Davie MacPhail, tying some beauties and dishing out some great Info for trout flies and tying some stunning “Goats Toe’s”

Duncan Egan took over from Hakan and showed us his skills with the Flamethrower

I then requested his “Junction Tube Pig” and was duly sat down next to him for a quick masterclass and hopefully a few pointers next time I’m at the vice.

Well worth dropping a few quid in the Casting for Recovery charity box for the info imparted today

Had a browse and spoke with Ian Gordon about rods and casting…as you do.., met Paul Young and Matt Hayes, never had time to speak to the other guys but a good turnout all in

Didn’t really hunt about for deals and bargains but there were a few to be had. Ended up picking up a pair of kegs and gilet & got an LED hat free with purchase which will keep on of my boys happy!!

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Big difference compared to the “Premier Show”, wish I hadn’t bothered to be honest!!

Cheers for now

i was at the premier show in edinburgh today, and it was a waiste of time, so much for the hundereds of stalls, only a handfull as stated above, and over inflated prices, (big time), wont be back to that again, wish i had went to glasgow instead,
to make the day worse we got 3 burgers, £15 and £1.50 for a can of coke.

Me and my mate went to the show in Edinburgh and quickly wished we hadn't. We only stayed for about an hour. Had a guy from Sonik tell us that their rods will improve our chances of catching by 80%... think they were desperate as it didn't look like many people were splashing the cash. Though we did have a good hunt in all of the 7 fishing stands as I was looking for small light weight rod for rivers as I have never fished on rivers.

The stall next to the burger van I found a 8ft #5/6 Adder rod for £15. Had never heard of them but the rod felt nice. The guy had a spare hard tube and gave it to me for free as well, which was rally nice.

Had a wee hunt over the other stalls for a reel and lines. Found small reel for £8 but the guy claimed that it was the exact same as Hardy and Orvis reels just unbranded, which was utter *******s as it felt like ****. So ended up back at the stall I got my rod as the guy was nice (it's amazing how a wee bit of kindness does to someones opinion) and got a reel for £15 and he had mill end lines for a £10 as well so got myself a wf-5 floater. Does anyone know if this guy has a shop? He had his grandkids running around taken the money.

Since my mate is local and I grew up locally we did what any sensible person would do... we went and fished the Almond! For £15 the rod I got is perfect, feels amazing to cast. Ended up we fished for 5 hours while the girlfriends were at the theatre and had 2 fish each and a good day. I also had a fish on my rod within 45mins of buying it (which was also my first Brownie from a river!). Wondering whats the quickest people have caught a fish from buying a rod?

Though I am glad with the rod and line I got... I am still very disappointed at the whole event. If getting stalls there was a problem then the organisers should have halved the admission price. Also, as said before there was not many discounts with rods, reels, lines and capes all in excess of £50/60 but there was no cash machine in the hall or places accepting cards. I dont go to these things with hundreds in my wallet.
