Default Double Whammy!!

Am starting to think something is working against me when I am fishing now,

I have been getting more blanks recently,

Am trying lots of different tactics and speaking to others to see what they are using but not getting the usual amount of interest,

This is my first season so is this usual for this time of year??

With most fisheries open year round is it worthwhile fishing through winter?

Craig,

I have just got back into catching again after kicking my tackle in the water a few times!

I was given a few checks that have worked for me.

1/ leader type- check that your using TOTALY clear line, and thins as you can. i didn see just how un-clear mine was untill compared to better stuff.

2/ Length- I know its basic sruff here but getting back to 101 can revive your hits. So make the leader as long or longer that your rod.

3/ knots&line ends- keep the knots as small as you can, and makesure you cut any access line as short as too.

4/ When you tie on a fly, check the first few inches of leader coming from the fly as the pressing of your fingers when pulling a fly tight with your knot can slightly kink the line making it totaly easy to see.

5/ Have you been trying new flies? hunt out your old flies that you still have that you have already cought with. OR if your using old ones look at there tightness, when they get rotty the trout can refuse them.

6/ leader care- this might sound dum, but are you using leeda-sink? you know the puddy you put on your leader to sink it and hide it?

I hope something here helps, it helped mw START catching so maybe it will get you back to normal again.
Paul.

Apart from all the above which is value info, this time of year is great for fishing and fish should be chasing a fly well as they are looking to build up fat reserves for winter months and its prime time for fry patterns.
The winter time is also very good, but they do come on and off the feed very quickly due to conserving energy but they do fight hard in the winter months and sport is,in the main excellent.

Maybe you are trying a little too hard and not fishing the way you used to when you were catching,it is a common mistake borne out of frustration.

are you seeing fish moving? What depth are they at ?Are you going past them ,bt that I mean if they are high in the water and you are using a line which takes your fly down and past them. What retrieve are you using?

Just some thoughts.

Craig

I love winter fishing, i fish every weekend october-march have some great sport

Id say field craft and simple observation are often over looked guys just walk up to the water tie there favorite lure and start chucking This will work ..............but other times it wont

I took 10 rainbows off Loch Tay today ....................once i figured they were amongst the leaves, twigs, rubbish that had been blown just off the reed beds, then figured they wanted a very slow fig 8 almost static ! pulls or any other retrieve produced nothing !

If you fancy meeting up after the brown season close at a fishery no problem mate , like to help guys im no expert but ive helped a few guys get the hang of certain methods tactics.
