Default Space for a novice FAQ section ???

i have been hanging around here for a few years now, one thing i have noticed is that there is a steady flow of new blood who are taking their first tentative steps into the confising world of fluff chucking....

i got to thinking, why dont we have an area on the boards with aanswers to those questions that 99% of newcomers ask, with the collective experience on these boards with minimal effort a great deal of information could be saved in one place that would help out newcomers and stop some of the negative comments that come from the same questions being posted again and again...

Apart from the fact that we have many sections that don't get a lot of hits,I think that this is a great idea.

Excellent idea in principle and it would be a good resource although it wouldn't necessarily solve the point you mention.
Most new members tend to go straight ahead with a new thread and don't use the existing search function. Whether they would notice or bother to read a novice FAQs sectionis debatable.

When you're a beginner though, I should imagine the biggest problem about using a search function is that you don't necessarily know what you should even be looking for. (And even if you did, the search function here is a bit rubbish anyway.)

That said, I do share your scepticism about whether anyone would notice it. However, even if they don't notice it when they first look at the site, it would be a useful resource to be able to steer people towards when they ask those very same frequently asked questions.

Good Idea, but I think it needs to be managed to ensure that it's accessible and does not have duplicates....

It has been pointed out before that you can use the powers of Google to search the forum.
If you enter site:www.flyforums.co.uk dropper knots , for instance, you can narrow your search criteria.

Perhaps this should be put up as a sticky.

I think it is a good idea. Another potentially useful resource for a beginner might be a glossary of terminology?

I think part of the point of a forum is that the information exchange is dynamic. That's also part of the fun: being able to talk to fellow enthusiasts from around the world.

A FAQ list is a bit static, and would probably contain info. available on many other sites (even if anyone could agree what to put on it!).

On top of that you might find that anglers with a bit of experience would just by-pass a beginners board, having the opposite effect to that intended.
