No Grayling in this part of the world so at the end of October that's it for the rivers until 1st March. I get through the winter with the odd fix at an all year stillwater. Other than that it's all about storing up as many brownie points as possible ready to be cashed in when the season starts!

I used to do a few trips to the small stillwaters but after 6 years of wild browns on rivers I find that the attraction of the rainbows is almost nil and is pretty much reduced to one trip.

5 Months of fly tying and dreaming and getting ready for 1st march.

Being a long-time coarse fisherman, the addition of fly fishing to my armoury has exapanded my fishing season. Just the 2 weeks between March 15th and April 1st where I can't go river fishing in some form or another.

I love fishing at this time of year. Barbel, Perch, Chub, Grayling, Roach, Pike ... the possibilities are endless. Plus there's the fly tying as well.

Couldnt agree more Otter, spot on.

Hope you got to try one of the nymphs I sent you .

At the moment its about cramming in as much fishing as possible .

I reckon i have a max of 4 more sessions before close of play on weds 30th.

Just as well in some ways, as have run out of Fullers Earth, Griffiths Gnats in smallest sizes etc and i refuse to tie flies during the season as it takes from the consolation of winter fly tying .......

The last few years I have put the fishing gear into hibernation at the end of the trout season until May cometh around again. I did at one time do some dead bait Pike fishing in Winter but it does get quite cold sitting about. I like walking more in Winter rather than fishing its great to see the Lochs frozen over so thick you can walk across them (do not try this at home). Seeing a Hare in its white coat is quite magical. Scotland can sometimes be even more beautiful in Winter what a country
