Default Broke my duck!

I went fishing at Powdermill reservoir today and caught a 1lb 6oz rainbow on one of my own flies! I caught it on a woolly b***er on my third cast, what a feeling! Nothing for the rest of the session, but most enjoyable. I need to work out which flies to concentrate on and refine my retrieve. My wife did not take the Mick this time when I got home.

It was my first ever trout too. Took five trips to get there!

Yes, I am feeling a little more confident, but I still cannot tell whether a fish is having a go at my fly below the surface or whether I am catching the bottom or imagining it. I thought there would be a definite tug on the line when a trout took the fly. I am never sure when to strike. I have read a couple of books and these have helped, but I really need to buy a book that has detailed descriptions of retrieving and techniques for still water. I was struggling with the knots too, both with my eyesight and clumsy fingers, but discovered the hemostat knot and began to use this with a pair of long nosed pliers. I must get some fishing forceps.

If you did it at Powder Mill then you will do it anywhere.

Nice one.
