the good old pheasant tail nymph , takes fish all year round and essential to anyones box i would think .

the daddies are out just now and the fish will be starting to feed on the fry very soon if not already preparing for winter , and i think this is one of the most exciting times to fish for trout as their aggression goes way up when they are on the fry.

sorry i took it u were fishing still waters but if its rivers im sure i could help a little as could many others, depending on were u fish.

Hi Delboy i am also new are you fishing rivers or stillwaters?
Stillwaters i would be fishing buzzers, sedges, and small black dries. But im only a novice im sure the more experienced anglers will give you good pointers.

Sounds like the PTN is the best fly to use right now but get some fry patterns and get ready for the fry-bashers through October.

Foam backed daddies like the ones on the cover of this months Trout Fisherman for the surface.

Big eyed minkie patterns for underneath.

My recommendation at least, ck.
