Default balance?

hi all.

ive just bought a greys x-flite 9'6' 7wt and a grxi reel 7/8wt i havnt used it yet but i must admit the reel feels abit "overkill" in weight and size!?

just wondering if anyone else had any similar experiences? i will be trying it out tomorow and am just putting lines on so i'm hoping things might feel abit more "balanced!?"

thanks j

Myself I would have gone smaller ,just because a rod is a 7/8 weight doesnt mean that it really needs a 7/8 reel.I know mine are,nt and the balance is fine.horses for courses and there is no written rule, its what you feel comfortable with.
Welcome to the forum and hope you benefit from it.

Make sure if you use it in saltwater that you give it a really good wash in cold freshwater after use,or it's mush.
Balance is a funny thing with reels,
You either think its heavy-good-too light.
But In reality, you will get used to any reasonably reel in short time. It's a body/balance thing.Try taking the reel off the rod and puting it in your pocket.I think you will find that within 10 min you will be casting just as far ,if not further.
