Default When fishing, do you talk to passers by, if they talk to you?

I went out on my MTB tonight and decided to go up the Taff Trail upto Castell Coch from the stadium.

I past 3 people fishing up from the Llandaff rowing club to by the Castle area.

I got off my bike, went down to the river bank and spoke to 2 of them (they're not on this forum, I already asked)

They were so f'ing rude!!!

I started with the usual 'Caught any? What you after?' etc
I wanted to know who owned this particular part of the Taff (cxlose to my house and looked quite nice and accessible.

Both were very dismissive and not very talkative. One even said 'Cant you see I'm a bit busy'

I did ask if they were on here and both said no, but in case you misheard me, go #### yourself lol

So my question is, do you talk to passers by, if they're pleasant enough to you and would you be helpful of who to ring etc if they expressed an interest in learning about the water, told you they're a keen fly fisher themselves and wanted to join the club etc...?

Really annoyed me that did. I've never treated another fly fisher like that

I say 'Hi' to people walking past, I've met a few rude people, it's just their mentality.

Most defnitely, that's half the enjoyment for me, chatting about the day, the tactics, how people are doing etc.
I will often offer a fly to someone if I have a spare, I hate miserable folk that look away when you aproach them, often makes me wonder if they have something to hide.
As Bruce would say, "Brothers of the angle"

I will talk to anyone about the waters I fish but I am not sure that this is always the best thing to do, I have spent a few years fishing certain stretches of the Swale and been the only angler there, just lately I have seen more and more poeple fishing "my stretches" and often wonder if this is my doing. its not stopped me yet though.

I take a brew kit with me if on the river for more than a couple of hours and I always takes TWO mugs.

Well, if I were reservoir fishing, my first line would be "Hi Jesus, how's things" because I always fish from a boat. If I was river fishing and I met a passer by, I would probably say "Please don't kill me" as I'd be sea trouting at some ungodly hour when only fellow sea trout fishermen or mass murderers are about.

I've often found that the really good anglers, the experienced ones who actually know what they're doing, are more often than not more than willing to stop and chat and share info and advice - especially towards novices and those keen to learn.

Anyone who has met Stuart Crofts or Jeremy Lucas will know what I'm talking about.

They sound more like t*ssers than anglers. I always speak to other anglers if I see them, whether I'm fishing or not, and I always chat back if someone talks to me. Even if I'm not angling and am in holiday tourist clobber or whatever, as soon as I say I'm a fellow angler they're usually happy to talk. If some of the top coarse match anglers can talk to people during matches then what excuse can these guys possibly have for being so rude?
