DEFINATELY NOT. mate

Sheelin has improved as a fishery over recent years and pollution seems to have decreased as regards the pig farming. The water quality has improved, probably as a result of zebra mussell, but in my opinion fisheries like this need much much more time to recover fully.

You would struggle to get a result. Look at some of the competitions held this year on Sheelin this year, like the Sheelin Classic, and the ITFFA Ulster Championships, very poor returns if you dont get good fishing conditions, and we all know how difficult it is to get good conditions for Wild Trout fishing in this country.

Have to agree with OO, not a chance. Its only a few years back when Sheelin was dead as a door nail. A few years of reasonable fishing and people are calling for comps to be held on it. Need to give it a chance to get back to the lough it used to be. I think comps are well down the list of priorities when it comes to looking after a fishery.

Me too

Sheelin I think tests more an anglers luck than his/her skill.
You hear about big fish coming off but more often than not its the only fish they caught all day.

Now Lough Owel could host a Stocky International and it has a few nice Wild Fish there as well.

For wild trout the only loughs in Ireland in my opinion, good enough to host and capable of hosting an International (with a result) are Lough Melvin, Lough Conn, & Lough Lein (Killarney). And I would like to see these held on a catch & release basis.
