Default fishing trip over

so my time in aberdeen has come to an end and i have really enjoyed myself, not so much the fishing on its own, but fishing with good friends which made it that more enjoyable. aswell as getting a friend started fishing .

however i have come away from this trip with a few questions to try and help broaden my fishing ability, i have tried searching through the search forum on this but really couldnt find anything to help narrow it down.

at one point we were fishing really well ever 4th or 5th cast was taking a hit. but then the heavens opened up and like so we fished through it. from the start of the rain and after it had finished nothing was taking, not even a knock or slight bit of intrest.

is it a case of when the heavens open up swap onto a buzzer or does it not really matter ?

second question was today for my last day we went fishing again with overcast and wind, 4 hours and not a touch but what i was getting when i put on a damsel and pulling it in quite fast i was getting alot of intrest i could see the ripples as the fish was darting towards it but turning away at the last moments,

i get this alot when dry fly but im improving on this (with the advice from this forum) but ive never had it on lure/wet flies and it wasnt one time it just kept on happing, tried slowing down my retrieval and changing the pattern of retrieval

in the end i put it down to the mud i was using for when i was dry fly fishing and promptly changed my leader

any suggestions ?

thanks in advance
steve
