Yes I was out today as I am out there 7 days a week I had one small fish . There were 100's of fish showing .

Where were you ?? Did you go out on your own as I saw from other threads you new to the Lough fishing . Dont worry about not catching as it is tough out there at the moment and all I talked to when I came in had not caught , but was still some out and they may have caught .

You did not pick the best time to fish there really as it is slow at the moment and is a very bad bloom on there as you will have seen

Hi, yeah I was out with another newbie to lake fishing and my sis as guille We were going to go to Lene but no boats available so headed for sheelin instead. I guess we were in the wrong place if you seen 100's of fish. We headed out from Crover House Hotel took a right and went up along that bank for a bit to Holywell. We then headed out across to far bank around Stony Isl and fished around that area. Seen a few rises but they only surfaced once. I was reading on fisheries board website (i think) that its good time to be out. We tried a few different sedges but no joy

What would you advise around tis time of year

Are the club accepting applications from anglers without boat & engine?

I was up between stoney and inchacup . You sure thats where you were ?? There are a lot of fish up that end at the moment and a lot are fry bashing .
You are right with the sedge but as you say the fish are showing only once , also the flies need to be very small sedges 16 and 18 .
I have not bothered with the dries the last 2 days as was not working for me or many others and thought would change tactics and went for fry flies . Had the one today and two yesterday 1.5 and 2.5 lbs on a alexandra and lost 2 other fish also . All this with flat calm and bright sun .
So yes sedge patterns and fry also . If there is a nice wave then all the usual suspects will take fish ( dabblers , bumbles and stimulators ) that sort of thing .

I think thats where we were... looking at online map...or maybe Capts Bay Just know there was two small Islands around the area

I tried a few wets early on with no luck either. Yes this fry bashing thing has got me interested as Ive seen this before an another lake. Where can I get flies that represent fry and what ones are best?

Ive been reading a bit on here about Blobs also. They seem to be quite good catchers...would these be any use on Sheelin?

Hoppers and Daddies...I really need to upgrade my fly box. Ive bought about 200 flies this season and still dont have half enough

Been reading about Biblio also...must get some of them too!
