Default Hook removal.

Took my Lab Jess for a walk today along the banks of the Ogmore in South Wales-after one of the kids noticed she was limping,I found this

Someone had either discarded or dropped a new size 14 treble which was now embedded in Jess's front right pad.

You're in the middle of a field with no multi-tool or similar, how do you remove it without causing distress or more damage?
I remembered removing a fly from myself, and cut a wrist bracelet that my daughter made, which happened to have 20lb mono for the core, looped it around the embedded hook ,applied pressure to the eye of the treble and yanked sharpley. It works very well, levering the barb through the entry hole.
Apart from being really annoyed that this happened,it made me think that even when doing something as simple as walking the dog's,it really pay's to remember the little things you have learned over the years whilst Fly fishing!

HI', Ade.
I have removed several fly hooks from friends and self, one size 6 salmon fly from a pal's bald head, using the same method. Hope the pooch is OK TerryC
PS If all anglers carried a small magnet in their weskits, stray hooks might be found, and damage to pets etc might be avoided.

Good to hear shes ok Stalker.

My dog is my best friend, cost me a fortune, but gives alot back.

When he was a pup he swallowed a lure and I fed him loads of bread to bloat him up and hopefully pass it through.Checked every dollop and following morning the last bit ,bingo there it was no damage done.

And for anyone who throws sticks for dogs,DONT,it can cause alot of damage and does regular and is common ,I did it once and it cost me many, many £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

ive also had this experience but with my cat you went into my fishing bag where a fly had fallen out and i had failed to notice,

yes sure the shiny colours attracted her to it and i imagine at the time it was fun for her to toss it round in the air

until it went into her paw. cost a bit aswell to get it removed at the vets. caught my dads finger aswell and it went in pretty deep which required a trip to a+e

glad to hear your dogs fine and atleast ive got an insight on what to do for when i catch my head, ear or any other body part
