Default DIY boot studding - Does it work OK? Any tips?

I'm thinking of studding a pair of cleated rubber thigh waders using those packs of studs sold by Snowbee/Sportfish/Simms (bit pricey, the latter). Any tips about how best to do it, how to space them, or suggestions for other methods of improving grip will be gratefully received.

I may be wrong ,but I think those studs are meant for felt soles.

they are hex head self tappers, same as on the back of your washing machine or hardware store, they work just the same on felt.

I reckon that the design would make them prone to ripping out. The screw thread looks like it should be be wider. Are the edges of the soles a better place to put a few studs in, than the centre?

David, I just put three round the toe area and three round the heel.
It helps when climbing out onto a grass bank and walking down a slope towards the river.
I think rubber soles are probably better without them in the centre, but others may know better.
I got mine from Tackletrade on ebay, about £6.99 with a special tool to fit them, dead easy and I think you get about 30 studs, so plenty left for replacements. S.

Don't you start again with your hotpoint specials.
