Default Ribble tonight

I'm thinking about heading up to the Ribble tonight to see if I can get my first sea trout. Does anyone know what the conditions are like at the moment? Its been raining on and off all week.

Would I be wasting my time?

Did you go fishing McTrout, if so, did you catch anything?

I had a go on the friday night but the river was to high for my fly outfit, had a go at spinning but managed to snap my rod while trying to lose a snag! I tried for a while before that happened though and didn't see sign of anything. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
My mate and I started fishing at the same time (a year ago ish) and taught each other along the way, which is probably a bad idea. Could do with a couple of lessons or just watching someone that knows what they're doing. I watched some of the others there on the Saturday but they were all speycasting. Got to learn to walk before I can run!

Default Big River!

I was on the Ribble Fri night about the time you posted – lost a nice Sea Trout (my first on fly!) that grabbed my first cast on the dangle.
The river was high up the banks covering the grass, and after wading up to my waist where there’s normally a dry gravel beach to 10ft out, then nearly not getting back in again, I canned the idea of wading and fished from the bank. The current was that strong it ripped my Gye net off my back (Essential Fly magnet).
Colour was quite brown too and most would have said not suitable for fly, despite my Sea Trout take. It took near the surface on my 15ft Rod to a Sz11 double Willie Gunn btw.
Tried spinning for a while but gave that up after losing a couple of Flying C’s despite the extra depth.
After the extra rain over the weekend I’d expect to wait a few more days before levels return to a reasonable state.

AFF - I'm not with a club, I've only been to Mitton. I've had a look down at Ribchester as well, theres a nice looking pool to the left as you get down to the river from the village but I've never fished it.

Don't suppose anyone knows any other stretches that decent AND cheap? Same for the Lune or Eden actually?

noeydeer - Where abouts were you fishing? Bet that was a pretty intense moment getting your first on the fly. I didn't even consider using a fly, my fly rod is only 9 1/2 foot 6 weight and I wasn't brave enough to wade.

I understand sea trouting at night is better done in low water whereas high water is good for salmon as long as its not carrying too much sediment. Is that right? Maybe I should have got straight in the tent and fished the next morning in that case.
