Default washing line

can a washing line set up be used on a floating line, and if so whats the best flies to use on it ?

Yes absolutely, normally a Booby or Dear Hair pattern on point for example, with say Diawl Bachs, Crunchers, Buzzers etc on the droppers.

Very affective when the fish are right in the top foot.

Your leader material and retrieve will determine how deep you get.....oh and the size of your boobies!! Heavier flourocarbon will sink the flies deeper and quicker.

But if you wanted to try the standard washing line .you could buy a 5' slow inter Polyleader and this would work as a midge tip.
