Hi Steve,

Not been up there much this season (prefer wild browns these days) but I believe it's been fishing well although as I write the rain is fairly pi**ing down AGAIN.
I would think 8.00am would be fine. Clampitts has been fishing well with the usuals from the bank. Small Montana's, damsel nynphs etc. Even with the rain the water should be clear so smallish stuff with not too much colour is always worth a go. Stick with the floater and keep an eye out for the daddies.

Tight lines.

Terry

8.00am is fine, as above, but also try a G&H sedge static or tweeked across the surface, also Bibio size 12 fished wet or greased up, and buzzers.
Cheers
Richard

I will second that, I visited Kennick the weekend before last and had interest with a G&H Sedge and a Cats Whisker. Caught four on a fairly light coloured Marabou Muddler all flies on or just under the surface. I did see one landed with a pink boobie if you are really struggling.

I was further up the reservoir from Clampits where it starts to narrow. I started about 7.30 but didn't see much action until about 10 ish.

Hope this might help a little, good luck.

Thanks guys, I'll stick my order in for some of those, this will be my first outing so really looking forward to it, probably make a pigs ear of casting, but you've got to start somewhere hey! have had half a days casting instructions on Kennick though, and found it beautiful.

Terry, I'm in Plymouth, where be you?

cheers guys
Steve

Hi Steve, I only started this year also, on my first trip to Kennick I blanked completely, not even a nibble. Fortunately I was not the only one so felt better about it, don't be disheartened if you have a hard day, it's a big lake!

thanks trouty, difficult isn't it, I'm acutely aware that I should be prepared not to get dis-heartened if I blank, to be honest I'm going with the intention of it being a casting practice, but why not tie on a fly and see if I can catch, nothing to lose!

cheers mate

Default Kennick Flyfishers

Hi Steve,
Kennick can be a bit temperamental at present due to the changing weather conditions - wind direction changes and lots of fresh water from all he rain. Fished it Friday got only 2 fish, all deep on a sinking line. Fished it on Sunday and got 5 fish all in the top few inches and had many more takes. The club, Kennick Flyfishers, had a 4 fish average on Sunday. See the club website www.kennickflyfishers.co.uk

Mornings are usually good with afternoons being more difficult and if the conditions are right a sedge hatch late evenings. The people at Kennick are usually helpful so if you see somebody catching just ask. I would be happy to join you for an evening sometime if you would like some help - pm me
Bill

Hi Steve,

Dont get disheartened Kennick is a very special place. I've fished it on and off for nearly 30 years and it always is a pleasure going back.
I'll second the friendlyness, there is always someone who will chat to you. Getting rarer these days.
One thing I would do to help your casting is when you get your permit lean over the fence and check the wind direction and the go to the bank that has the wind favouring your casting shoulder. It can blow up from the causeway and in which case have a go where the boats are moored but dont stay in one place all day move along if nothing shows. You can cross over the causeway down the far end easily.

Have a good day.
I'm from near Newton Abbot.
Terry

Hi guys, thanks for all the info, I'm going to order some of your mentioned flies, any ideas what sizes I should get them in?

Bill, that's very good of you, I will certainly contact you, would be great to meet up and get some help, many thanks.

Cheers
Steve
