Default Fishing in Berkshire/Pangbourne/Reading

Evening,

I started fly fishing around four months ago and have had a lot of help from the forum and its members in terms of casting and equipment. Well, what can I say, I'm adicted and would like to find a water or synidicate to join.

I'm in the process of moving to Pangbourne, just outside Reading and would appreciate any help with regards to where I may wish to consider joining. I know there is the Pang, Kennet etc but so far have not managed to find any syndicates. I have a phone number from a forum member which I will try but apparently, there may not be any rods available. Not sure what the fishery is called.

I am aware of Barton Court and Denford Fishery but I had hoped not to have to pay that amount, both are over 1K for the year.

I would rather find a syndicate with a stretch on a river but if it was a still water or nothing then that would be OK. Again, in the area I'm aware of barn elms and hawards farm.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

There's the river pang, a few syndicates down from barn elms (Bradfield) through to the thames at Pangbourne. It's stocked with Rainbows and has a few wild browns and grayling. I can find contact details if needed.

All the best, John (newbie from Pangbourne).

Tom - there is a syndicate on the stretch of the Pang behind Barn Elms. It is run by Roy, whose surname escapes me. If you ask for him at the Barn Elmes fishing hut they will give you his details. However, it is a very, very small river and very shallow. It is difficult for more than 1 person to fish it and I was not that impressed with it as a beat. Some people love it though.

I am a member on the Whitewater (Heckfield). It is run by FDAS and in my view is the best value fishing in the Reading area at about £90 per season. It would be worth applying next feb when they work out the 2010 membership.

Aside from that, if you want chalk stream stuff I know of no options other than driving down to wiltshire, which is not too far. However, if you find any decent fishing near Reading please let me know!!!!!

If you are prepared to do some stillwater fishing I must recommend Farmoor 1 - a host of fish in the 3-6lbs range.Long, lean and fighting fit in gin clear water.

Barn Elms is right on your doorstep and very friendly, if a little "Mickey Mouse"

Just to echo both Pond321 and Charlie. The FDAS stretch on the Whitewater is superb value and the trout in Farmoor 1 are simply fantastic.
