Default Less of the lip

I went out to my local stocked fishery this eve as i had an hour or 2 to kill. I noticed a few daddies flying along the grasses on the bank as well as some sedges and small midges also. I tied on a team of 3 dries, a daddy-longs legs, g+h sedge and a shuttlecock hares ear. There were an occasional fish showing and i landed a small brown on the shuttlecock pattern. Darkness was approaching and i on my way back to the car i cast to a fish that was topping and tailing within range. I watched as the fly disappeared and paused before striking. I was surprised when i failed to "feel " the fish especially as the disturbance in the water indicated i had at least moved the fish. as the fly flew towards me i seen the fish turn and boil as if i had been in contact with it. I felt nothing and was really puzzled as i had timed(or so i thought ) everything to perfection.
I cursed my luck and after a few casts in the hope that the fish was stupid enough to return i walked back to the car. It was only when i started to pack up that i noticed the fly and what was attached to it.
Apologies for the quality of the pics and the inclusion of my daughter grinning manically

I was really surprised to see the lips of a fish on the hook and had to post the pictures to hear if this is a regular things as i have never heard of it happening.

What have you done to that fish !!!!!

Thats worse than that day I struck into what I thought was one of Sheelin's lumps and pulled a 4 inch trout clear of the water and 10 yards towards me

Was this on your new rod ?? It seems to be less forgiving than your old one I would say .

I am trying my best not to laugh but it is just no good , I am in bits !!

Probably been hooked in the same part of the mouth before which weakened the muscle and ligament attachments - I've seen fish with the "scissors" torn open by careless handling/playing and once torn it wouldn't take much to rip it off with a good strike!

It will have a sore mouth for a while but it won't stop it feeding.

That looks like the lot there, both maxillae, I'd guess. Don't worry about it Twincast -- hey, that's another TC. Heaven help you. Fish will feed on and even thrive with all sorts of bits missing. Once caught a 2lb rainbow with four 'portholes' down its side. You could see its innards, which had been sort of glazed over. Found out two years later, after it had been examined by fisheries people, down in Wales, that the damage was not due to a pike, but was caused by roe that had not been ingested by the fish when she was unable to spawn. I am sure we all appreciate your concern. TerryC

Dont feel to bad.
It was probabily injured before hand.
I have caught fish with cormarant and heron marks, also with eyes missing so as i say dont worry it should be fine.
