buy good second hand or trawl the big online mobs, sportfish, john norris, fly only and see what they got on offer. call them up and tell them your situation and see what they come up with. i know sportfish have a guide rod on offer at the minute for £25 saving what they purport to be £94, take that with a pinch of salt but its a good starter rod. this leaves you 75 quid to get a reel (dont spend a lot) and a line (spend a few quid and get a decent one). you might even have a few quid left for some flies. hope this helps. jon mcmillan.

have a look at the outfits here on garry evans:

http://www.garryevans.co.uk/scierra-...100-2505-p.asp

http://www.garryevans.co.uk/new-wych...fit-1155-p.asp

Personally I would go for the wychwood extremis one but your choice. Both are cracker value and you get a line etc. included...

or if you wanted to make something up yourself then something like a

http://www.sportfish.co.uk/product/guideline-alpha-rods

plus

http://www.ian-woods.co.uk/prods/112.html

plus 2 lines
http://www.garryevans.co.uk/partridg...ines-436-p.asp

and

http://www.garryevans.co.uk/shakespe...nes-3023-p.asp

THAT ALL COMES TO ONLY about £60! great deal but if i were you id look at the outfits in the 2 links at the start.

Subscribe to Total Fly Fisher (£37) and get the 'free' rod. I've got one and like it. Works a treat with my old Leeda Rimfly and mill end fly line (sub £50 outfit!!)

you dont need to just buy a rod, you could subscribe to total flyfisher and get a 9ft 6 5/6 weight rod and 12 copies of a brilliant fishing mag!

As for a reel, the BFR Dragonfly Large Arbor Cartridge reel 5/6 for around £50 with 4 spare spools and case.

Total setup for Magazine, rod, & reel £87.30

Rod and mag: http://www.totalflyfisher.com/Subscriptions/

Reel: http://www.mullarkeys.co.uk/fishing/...ls/0/wychwood/
