The rod is made out of steel, it has a red color but the paint is wearing off. The rod measures a little over 3 feet collapsed and about 7.5 feet extended. The handle is made of cork and is a little dirty from use, but in good shape. The reel is made by Union Hardware Co. It still cranks when you reel it, I believe it is in working shape. The slider button that turns off the cranking and opens up the reel works as well (sorry unsure of part name). If I had to guess an age for this it would be around the turn of the century (1890-1920s). It is in extremely good shape. The only bad thing I can say about it is the first collapsing point is loose so you can accidentally extend it and pull the rod out from the base, just slide it back in and hold the loop down to fix it..
