Default Burke boat versus sheelin boat??? Which is the best

Most loughs in ireland have a equal balance of burke angler fancy or sheelin boats, which of the 2 boats are best and why,?? Taking style build materials , drifting performance and price into consideration

I have found the burkes to be a more stable beast, and would be my preference.

i have a sheelin, and used lots of burke's boat's. for me the sheelin is heavier and and hanldes better in rough weather, burke may drift a little better, but the burke boats seat's are better spaced out for when 3 are fly fishing out of the boat!

true and as i say 2 great boats, only thing about sheelin boats is as you said its a bit heavy and if your on your own it can be difficult to to move, ie putting up on trailer, or even if you come up on soft sand at shore i found it hard to move out,
but fantastic boats and both are irish built and are world renowned.

Kildare, previously Ballina.

Best boat I was ever in was made by a one man band in Enniskillen. Similar in profile to the burkes. I recall starting a long drift towards the shore on Conn - a burkes came in 40 yards behind and then a sheelin a further 30 odd yards behind the burkes - medium wind. The burke passed us out and then the sheelin passed out both of us - both boats finished the drift well in advance of us. I suppose that all three boats hold an advantage depending on the strength of the wind and that other personal preferences and where you live will influence your decision.

From limited enough experience all I can say is that the only time in my life that I felt like a cork bobbing in the middle of the atlantic was coming up Carrowmore in gale force wind in a sheelin - serious rock n roll with the ham sambos doing their best to come back out.

For me it has to be the sheelin in the event you get caught out in a storm i find the sheelin better to take a big sloppy wave
