i worked at slayley hall for 10 years and stocked one of the lakes on the golf course if you asked you could prob fish it for free dont no whats in now tho, and there is a lake near the lodges that has wild browns in could be a bit weedy, as for sea trout and salmon there is a one mile free strech on the wear at durham about 40 mins from slaley i had a 17.5 lb sea trout out of there you can get day tickets for the tyne and the wear, loads of still waters about and the derwent res is 5 mins away,

good luck

I think that one's actually a bit of an urban myth. I asked about it in the tourist information centre in Corbridge last year, who told me that the riparian owner had had a change of heart and that it was no longer free fishing. In fact, they were a bit sceptical that it ever had been free fishing anyway. I wish I'd thought to ask exactly who this riparian owner actually was. (All I know is that it isn't Northumbrian Water, as I'd already asked them directly.)

Sorry, where were we? Ah, yes, fishing near Slaley… I'm not a salmon angler myself, so I'd drop Springer a line if I were you.
